Common Men's Fashion Mistakes to Avoid
Posted by
onClothing is a way to express your individuality but there are some clothing items/ styles that you should stay away from.
Improper tie length
Usually one is advised that the tie should reach the belt buckle or the waistband of the trousers. Your tie should go no lower than your waistband, you might risk having it get stuck in your fly.
V-neck t-shirts
T-shirts are a wardrobe staple, you would be hard pressed to walk into any man’s closet and not find one. T shirts are timeless and versatile, they can be dressed up or dressed down. You can never go wrong with plain T-shirts BUT V-neck t-shirts are a no go zone. If the neckline is four fingers below the collar bone then stay well away from that t-shirt. Deep V-neck t-shirts are extremely unflattering and if you don’t want to look like a douchebag then you shouldn’t have any in your closet.
Sandals with socks
So you want to wear comfortable footwear and be warm at the same time. Socks and sandals may sound like a good idea but you don’t want to look like you fell out of bed and into your clothes. The old Romans might have thought it was stylish but that was then. If it’s too cold to wear sandals properly then don’t wear them at all.
All Buttoned Up
Wearing your blazer all buttoned up is never a good idea. Not only do you look uncomfortable, it takes away all the shape from your torso and you end up looking boxy.
If you have a bit of a belly, you should probably leave the jacket open completely as trying to close the jacket will only draw more attention to your extra weight.
Leaving one button open makes you look more relaxed.
Proper way to button your blazer
Stripes with Stripes
Striped suits are bold and make a statement of authority. If you are just
venturing into patterns then stripes are the perfect way to dip your toe. Striped
shirts look great under a simple blazer or just by themselves. If you do go for stripes, go for vertical ones
they are the most flattering ones.
One thing you should not do is wear stripes with stripes. That is definitely overkill.
